The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Scholarship 2010

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program (GMS), funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding, low income African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American*, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline area of interest. Continuing Gates Millennium Scholars may request funding for a graduate degree program in one of the following discipline areas: computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science. The goal of GMS is to promote academic excellence by providing thousands of outstanding students, who have significant financial need, the opportunity to reach their full potential.

The GMS program offers leadership development programs with distinctive personal, academic and professional growth opportunities including mentoring services and an online resource center that provides up-to-date information on internship, fellowship and scholarship opportunities, as well as graduate and post-graduate resources and conferences.

The Gates Millennium Scholars 2010 Nomination Process has launched.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) - Available Scholarship Opportunities

HSF was founded in 1975 as a not-for-profit, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) is the US prominent Latino scholarship organization, providing the Latino community more college scholarships and educational outreach support than any other organization in the country.

In its 33-year history, HSF has awarded in excess of 86,000 scholarships, worth more than $250 million, to Latinos attending nearly 2,000 colleges and universities in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

    * Have plans to enroll FULL-TIME in a degree seeking program at a two or four year U.S. accredited institution in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands or Guam in the upcoming academic year.

4. Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS)
    * Be a graduating high school senior
    * Be enrolling for the first time at a college or university as a FULL-TIME degree-seeking freshman in the fall.
    * Be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen
    * Have a minimum GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale
    * Demonstrate leadership skills, and significant financial need (Pell Grant eligible)

GISMA Business School Scholarships for MBA Program

The following describes the opportunities through which the GISMA Foundation can offer financial assistance to help cope with the funding of the program tuition in GISMA’s full-time MBAprogram. Enabling program participation of capable applicants, who cannot come up with the full tuition on their own is an integral objective of the GISMA Foundation. To that end, GISMA raises scholarship funds, which are then used to fund partial scholarships.

1. Scholarships based on Merit

GISMA Foundation has stipend funds available, which can be allocated to applicants with exceptional qualifications. The goal is to attract highly qualified individuals to take up their studies here at GISMA. The assistance takes the form of full or partial scholarships covering between 25% and 100 % of the overall tuition fee.

The written request for a scholarship should include:
• Information on the GMAT result (Score > 700),
• Detailed description of the applicant’s financial situation (Family savings, income situation, additional lines of credit),
• Description of further exceptional qualifications, e.g. career path and/or current position in the company/organization,
• Application for a specific scholarship amount; respectively, information on what part of the tuition can be self-financed is a must

2. Partial Scholarships based on Merit and Financial Need

GISMA Foundation has further scholarship funds available for applicants, whose financial need can be assessed and verified. With this, GISMA wants to enable participation of those applicants in the program, which with their current financial means cannot fund the program by themselves. The assistance takes the form of partial scholarships covering between 25 % and 75% of the overall tuition fee.

The written request for a partial scholarship should include:
• Detailed description of the applicant’s financial situation (Family savings, income
situation, additional lines of credit),
• Application for a specific scholarship amount; respectively, information on what part of
the tuition can be self financed is a must
• Information on the GMAT result (Score > 600).

Please note:
GISMA Foundation is in the fortunate position to be able to award significant amounts as financial assistance. The sources of this funding obligate us to verify the consumption according to the before mentioned restrictions and criterions. The Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics (SGPE)

The SGPE combines the research and teaching expertise of eight Scottish Universities (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Heriot-Watt, St. Andrews, Stirling, Dundee, Aberdeen and Strathclyde) to provide graduate students with a high quality and thorough training in economics and to furnish them with the skills of the modern professional economist. The Scottish Graduate Programme comprises a MSc (Masters) course based at the University of Edinburgh and optionally up to three years further study towards a PhD (Doctorate) at any of the participating universities.

The Masters course, which lasts for one year if taken full-time and two years if taken part time, leads to the award of MSc in Economics or MSc in Economics (Finance). The Masters course also forms the compulsory year of coursework and research training for the doctoral component.

Overseas Research Students Awards Scheme (ORSAS)

ORSAS was set up by the Secretary of State for Education and Science in 1979 to attract high-quality international students to the United Kingdom to undertake research. The Scheme is funded through the four UK higher education funding bodies (for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).

From 2006 onwards, participating Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) have received an annual grant to fund ORSAS and selected their ORSAS award holders internally. The grant is allocated by formula and reviewed periodically with regard to postgraduate research student recruitment and related data. The current formula allocations are set to run from 2006-07 until the end of 2008-09.

ORSAS awards beyond 2009

The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) will not be able to fund ORSAS after 2009. This change applies to England and Wales only; other UK Funding bodies have yet to make a decision about the future of the ORSAS awards in Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

RHS Postgraduate Research Support Grants

The Royal Historical Society is committed to supporting postgraduate students. All postgraduate students registered at doctoral research level at a UK university are eligible to apply for Membership of the Society, which provides access to the full range of the Society's activities.

We also offer a number of research grants for those undertaking postgraduate research, whether they are Members of the Society or not. Funds are available to subsidise attendance at conferences and training courses, and to help defray the costs of archival visits. In addition, bursaries are available to help those organising conferences to provide subsidised rates for postgraduate attendees.

We also offer the Martin Lynn Scholarship to assist an historian pursuing postgraduate research on a topic in African history and the Marshall and Centenary Fellowships to assist those writing up dissertations. The Rees Davies graduate essay prize is open to any graduate student who has benefited from the Society's research support scheme.

Royal Historical Society awards are intended principally for postgraduate students registered for a research degree at United Kingdom institutions of higher education (full-time and part-time); the Society will also consider applications from individuals who have completed doctoral dissertations within the last two years and are not yet in full-time employment.

Grants of between £75 - £500 are offered under four schemes

i) for individual travel to conferences
ii) for research expenses within the United Kingdom
iii) for research expenses outside the United Kingdom
iv) for organisers of workshops and conferences to encourage the participation of junior researchers

The average grant is for a sum of £250, and priority will be given to new applicants. All applicants, however, are expected to seek funding from their own institutions in the first instance. Please note that grants cannot be sought retrospectively.

The International Student Awards scheme is not open to members of the British Council or their families, expatriate UK citizens and their children, including dependants of the British Armed Forces.

Eligible institutions

Entrants should be currently enrolled on a course of study at one of the following:

    * All publicly funded UK higher and further education institutions, and those that are private that have been appropriately quality assured.
    * UK independent secondary boarding schools that are accredited through the Independent Schools Council (ISC) or the Scottish Council for Independent Schools (SCIS) and STABIS (State Boarding Schools Information Service) schools.
    * Independent UK colleges of further education that are accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC) and offering courses with UK quality assurance.
    * UK institutions with Open University validation (all courses).
    * English language and teaching institutions that are accredited by the British Council through the English in Britain Accreditation Scheme.

African Humanities Research Fund - ORISHA Studentships

The African Studies Committee invites applications for the ORISHA Studentship for research in the Humanities in Africa from persons who will be registered as graduate students of the University from October 2010. Students may be registered in any of the following disciplines: African Studies, Social and Cultural Anthropology, Archaeology, Development Studies, History, Human Geography, Literature, Politics and International Relations, Religious Studies. Proposals must include a major focus on Africa at The University of Oxford, United Kingdom.

Applicants for the scholarship may be new candidates for admission to the University, or already registered as graduate students. The University of Oxford academic admissions procedure is separate from that for this scholarship.

Those applying to the University for the first time should ensure that their application for entry is made before the deadline for this scholarship. The scholarship can only be awarded to a student who has been accepted for study at the University.

The scholarship alternates between St Cross and St Antony’s College. New and continuing students should name St Cross College as their college of first choice on their University and scholarship application form.

The scholarship is variable in the amount awarded. Generally, it will cover college and university fees and a maintenance allowance.

Students from African countries are strongly encouraged to apply. The award is available for three-year doctoral degrees. Renewal for two and three year periods is subject to satisfactory progress. Overseas students are encouraged to apply for supplementary funds such as the Clarendon Fund, or other sources both in their home countries and in Oxford. Ioma Evans-Pritchard Scholarship

As part of the development of African and Interdisciplinary Studies, St Anne’s College is offering the Ioma Evans-Pritchard Scholarship in conjunction with the African Studies Centre. The Scholarship will cover the full university and college fees and a maintenance allowance for a suitably qualified student applying for the MSc African Studies.

In order to be considered for the Scholarship you must indicate in the funding section of your admissions application that you intend to apply for Ioma Evans-Pritchard Scholarship and you must name St. Anne’s your first college choice.

Your application for admission to the course must be submitted to the Graduate Admissions office by the closing date of the 2nd application deadline (22nd January 2010) if you wish to be considered for the Ioma Evans-Pritchard Scholarship.

Incomplete applications received by this deadline will not be considered for this award.
